Not all resolutions are created equal. Some are more glorious, more worthwhile, than others. This time of year we are prone to set lots of goals. The question we should deeply consider is this: Is this goal worthy of my time and effort?

Let me point you to a goal Jesus sees as worthwhile. “Seeing God“.

Matthew 5:8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

Lots of people long for a “blessed” 2018, but few share Jesus’ view of what is true “blessedness” and true human flourishing looks like. True flourishing, true blessedness looks like, seeing and beholding God in Christ with a pure, righteous heart that is freely given to us when we trust in the finished work of Jesus.

Those who have received this “pure heart”, are radically resolved to know more and more of this Jesus. This desire to understand, love, obey and reflect God and His good design and purposes in all that we do is wisdom.

Tim Keller puts it this way:

“Wisdom is only a by-product of wanting something more than wisdom – wanting to see God! Aim at knowing God and we get wisdom thrown in. Aim just at wisdom in order to be ‘successful’ – and you get neither”.

So this year, gauge success a bit differently.

Make this your aim in 2018: Know Jesus better.

You’ll be all the wiser for it.
